Group #1: Kisii
Today we traveled to the church in Kisii. It was a very long ride, but we spent the time singing praise songs and discussing our faith, which made the journey meaningful.
The scenery along the way was beautiful. We traveled along mountainsides, saw tea plants and sugar cane, passed many different animals, and looked out over a valley full of shining mist. It was one of those drives where the beauty of God’s creation was all around us.
The trip became quite eventful when we were pulled over by the road authorities and Efren was interrogated. Thankfully, we made it through just fine, and we know it will always be one of those moments we laugh about when we remember this trip.
We made it to Kisii around 2:30 p.m. and followed the congregation out to the tent. It was truly touching to see it in person. We thank the Lord that they are able to meet in a building again and can now use the tent for other activities.
Afterward, we gathered in the house for tea, bread, and soda. We spent time talking and fellowshipping with Pastor Hansen, his wife, mother, father, some of their board members, and members of the congregation.
It was both funny and inspirational because halfway through, our interpreter stopped, looked at Chris, and said, “Now our brother Chris has something to say.” And if you know Chris, you know he is a man of few words. But he stood and addressed them anyway.
It was a lovely time together and really special to put faces to the people we are praying for and supporting as a church.
Until next time! Dakota :)
Group #2: Eldoret
Group #2 began the day by dropping off soccer balls to the kids at Community Church Eldoret. From there, we delivered a suitcase full of clothes to the young ladies at Cherished Hope.
Afterward, we went to the mall and then visited Eldoret Animal Sanctuary. It was not only a way to see animals, but also a great opportunity to spend time with Paul and Calvin. Seeing some of the homes represented from the 43 different tribes was also very interesting and gave us another glimpse into the rich culture and history here.
We arrived back at our accommodations, where Paul taught us a challenging and fun Kenyan card game. It was a great way to end the day together with laughter, learning, and fellowship.
